“Root” is a sentient form of the consumable known as a carrot (Daucus carota). Subject is approximately 4 cm in height and 1 cm in depth. Upon exposure to Reagent SOL, subject experienced rapid growth of appendages humanoid in nature, allowing it to stand upright and make rudimentary movements and gestures. Subject’s color is orange with yellowing at the end of the newly-grown extremities. Subject lacks a green leaf.
This is Dr. Julius’s first log regarding the subject “Root,” recorded March 2, 1904. Subject came into contact with Reagent SOL while operative Steve A was on lunch break near the crash site. While eating his lunch, he noticed one of the baby carrots began growing and slightly moving amongst the other ones. He quickly called for his commander, who immediately contained the baby carrot for further study under my lead. I have performed all the visual observations necessary and shall proceed with experiments 001-E1, 001-E2, and 001-E3.
After the first three experiments, here are my thoughts:
Based on these thoughts, I speculate that Reagent SOL gives the subjects the ability to feel emotion at the level of a human’s id. It also allows them to gain mobility in the form of manipulable appendages for movement. Lastly, subjects at this size seem to regard no hostility towards humans. Further research required for the following questions:
For now, I believe “Root” to be of no threat, and even a little cute. I might give this one to my daughter and ask for another subject. This is the first of many logs, and I think the beginning of a new field of science. This is Dr. Orin Julius, ending Creature Log 001. I need to find a better name for these…
